Alpha Palliative Care is one of the largest Home Based Palliative Care provider in the country based in Kerala. Alpha Hospices working 24X7 hours at Edamuttam, Thrissur, Kochi, Alappuzha, Kasaragod and 16 Link Centres in many Block Panchayats. Alpha provide Palliative Care for 8500 patients on any given day. Alpha has provided services to over 20000 patients by now. Specially trained doctors, physiotherapists and nurses focus on medical care and hundreds of community volunteers for social care.

An Initiative of
Alpha Palliative Care


Alpha Palliative Care is bringing the young and vibrant student community to spread the message and engage them in Palliative Care projects. Alpha’s initiative of “One rupee one Life’’ is a scheme which encourages each child to contribute one rupee from his/her pocket money towards patients’ care. This daily action is a constant reminder of the needs of the people suffering from pain and distress.

Rehabilitation

Project


Wedding of the daughters and sisters is found to be a major emotional concern of the patient. Consequently Alpha has devised a project for conducting the marriages of daughters and sisters of patients who cannot afford the wedding expenses. Bride-grooms are selected by the family. Alpha provides the arrangements for the marriages as per the customs and rites. Cash gift of Rs. 50,000 and 40 grms. gold jewellery. Sadya (feast) is prepared and served by volunteers. Cultural programmes are conducted by Alpha Kalavedi (A cultural club of patient’s children). Marriages are conducted twice every year.

Neuro-rehabilitation

Under this program, Patients with restricted mobility due to accidents, stroke, polio, and people who are mentally challenged etc., are picked up from their places of residence and brought to the physiotherapy centers for undergoing treatment. They are provided food and then after the treatment, dropped back. Some of these patients who require continuous attention are taken in as In Patients for a period of time before they are discharged, subsequent to which they come for treatment on periodical basis.

COMMUNITY

 

The Compassionate Community initiative is aimed at creating a network of a patient’s family members, neighbours, colleagues and friends to help in reducing the physical and mental stress of the patient and the immediate family. It is about creating awareness in the society to total care and compassion.

“Santhwana  Samanuayam” is network of voluntary supporters who donate every month to Alpha. Volunteers run subscription campaigns at their own time. Revenue goes directly to patient care. It is a novel example of community participation.

An Initiative of Alpha Charitable Trust

to give qualitative diagnose, treatment and care for common people including dialysis and mother and child care in a nominal fees by community support. First community hospital has started its service at Mathilakam, NH 17, Near Kodungallur, Kerala.
